On May 21st, Medscape published YouTube Corrects Its Misdiagnosis of Doc's Coronavirus Video . The authors report YouTube’s removal of the UnHerd.com interview with prof. Karol Sikora. The appeal to Youtube was rejected. It took Medscape appeal to the parent company of YouTube - Google to restore the video. The video takedown made prof. Sikora to start Twitter account, which quickly gained 200,000 followers. The UnHerd was HEARD.
I have been asked multiple times why doctors who disagree with official views on SARS-CoV-2 epidemic are not been heard? I disagree that the voice of reason is not being heard but, it definitely faints in comparison with the tsunami of official news declaring end of the world as we know it, proclaiming that a cure or a vaccine is around the corner, promoting unproven treatments and use of ineffective personal protective strategies and equipment (masks!), etc.
Other than the sheer number of published “official news and views”, there are other factors at play:
Active policing of contrarian views by online and other media such as YouTube takedown of UnHerd.com video;
Reluctance to contradict official policy due to fear of reprisal both on media and in real life;
Fear of being different, contrarian, going against the (main)stream or “expert recommendations”;
Desire to support a particular politician or a party regardless of one’s actual views (in order to defeat or degrade a competitor);
Profit motives, which, without doubt, are fueled by lobbyists;
Attempts to justify policy mistakes and deflect its critics;
Unapologetic attitude amongst policy makers;
Transfer of blame to another party;
Propaganda - need to propagate and impose one’s ideology or views onto others;
Egos involved - desire to show that one was right even, if he was wrong,
Desire to protect one’s legacy; and
Last but not least: incompetence, stupidity, and vanity of policy makers.
Please note that I purposely avoided listing various “conspiracy theories”.
