Did we forget influenza?

Mar 29 2020

it sure sounds like that when listening to our health-geniuses-talking-heads on the news, who utter not a word about adults and children lost to influenza and pneumonia this week.

Here is a CDC Influenza update for Week 12, ending March 21, 2020

  • 37 states experience high Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) activity

  • 49 states report regional or widespread influenza activity

  • The overall cumulative hospitalization rate increased to 67.3 per 100,000

  • The percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza is 7.4%, above the epidemic threshold of 7.3%

  • 6 influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported this week. The total for the season is 155

  • The number of deaths (for the week 11) was 365 from influenza and 2,431 from pneumonia (Dr. Why: curiously enough, CDC reports influenza and pneumonia deaths together, meaning we do not know what caused these pneumonias)
